Court Upholds Nationwide Block on Trump’s Citizenship Order

A federal appeals court has ruled that former President Donald Trump’s attempt to end birthright citizenship is unconstitutional. The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals upheld a nationwide block on the order, affirming that children born in the U.S.—even to parents who are undocumented or in the country temporarily—are entitled to citizenship under the 14th Amendment. The ruling, delivered by a 2-1 vote, reinforces a district court’s decision that the executive order violated constitutional protections. With several legal challenges still pending, the case could ultimately return to the Supreme Court for final resolution.
