Botox Boom: Millennials Nearly Catching Gen X in Cosmetic Injection Trend

Injectables Go Mainstream
Botox is no longer a hush-hush beauty secret. New data from Qsight, shared with Axios, shows millennials are rapidly closing the gap with Gen X when it comes to neurotoxin injections like Botox — signaling how routine cosmetic treatments have become across age groups. What was once whispered about is now as common a topic as hair appointments, according to experts.
American Society of Plastic Surgeons president Dr. C. Bob Basu notes that injectables have transitioned from “whisper topic” to something openly discussed among friends, colleagues, and on social media.
Who’s Getting the Shots?
Gen X still leads the way, accounting for about 39% of neurotoxin procedures this year. But millennials are right behind at 35%, climbing quickly as younger adults embrace “preventive” treatments. Gen Z, just beginning to enter the aesthetics market, already represents 6% of patients.
Physician Rebecca Small says interest in lip fillers and masseter Botox — injections to slim the jawline — continues to grow among younger clients.
Shifting Preferences
Experts say trends are evolving from dramatic transformations to subtle refinement. In Texas, Basu sees patients opting for a “softer, balanced look” instead of the once-popular “bigger is better” approach to aesthetic treatments.
Not Just a Beauty Shortcut
Despite rising normalization, specialists stress that injectables are medical procedures — not casual beauty fixes. Whether used for anti-aging, facial sculpting, or preventative care, providers urge patients to be informed and work with qualified professionals.
