“Be Cheechy”: A Little Boy’s Joy Inspires a Movement of Kindness

Some legacies are measured in years. Others are measured in impact.
For 3-year-old George Howley, it was the latter.
A Joy That Filled Every Room
George Howley lived a life many would describe as medically fragile — but those who knew him remember something entirely different.
Joy.
Even in hospital rooms filled with uncertainty, George had a way of lifting spirits. His parents recall moments when fear filled the air — only for George to break it with laughter, reminding everyone, in his own way, that it was going to be okay.
Despite battling a rare genetic mitochondrial disorder, seizures, and countless medical challenges, George’s life was marked by something powerful: an unwavering happiness that touched everyone around him.
Turning Grief Into Purpose
After George’s passing in 2025, his parents, Staci and Kevin Howley, made a decision that would turn heartbreak into something bigger than themselves.
“Cheechy,” a term inspired by George’s big cheeks and even bigger personality, became their way of describing joy, kindness, and love in action.
And it didn’t take long for that spirit to spread.
What It Means to ‘Cheech’ Someone
To “cheech” someone is simple.
Pay for a stranger’s meal.
Buy a coffee for someone having a tough day.
Help someone without expecting anything in return.
No grand gestures required — just small acts that carry big meaning.
So far, more than 2,400 people have been “cheech’d,” and the movement continues to grow.
What makes it different? There’s no obligation to pay it forward. The kindness stands on its own.
A Life That Still Moves People
George never walked. He never spoke.
But he didn’t need to.
His presence alone left an impression that continues to ripple outward — through his family, his caregivers, and now, thousands of people carrying his message forward.
“Without saying a word, he just moved everyone that he met,” his father shared.
That kind of impact doesn’t end. It multiplies.
A Call to Live Like George
At the heart of the movement is a simple message: Live Like George.
See people.
Love people.
Choose joy — even when it’s hard.
In a world often divided by differences, George’s life reminds us of something deeper: kindness doesn’t see politics, backgrounds, or boundaries.
It just shows up.
A Movement Rooted in Something Bigger
The Howleys hope “cheeching” becomes more than a moment — they hope it becomes a movement.
Because sometimes, the most powerful thing you can do… is something small.
And sometimes, the people who leave us the soonest… leave behind the biggest lessons.
