Your 40s Aren’t Just About Hormones — They’re About Your Heart

Women are often told to expect changes in their 40s.
Hot flashes. Weight gain. Sleep disruption. Mood changes. A slower metabolism.
It’s your heart.
New research looking at women transitioning through perimenopause found that women in perimenopause were about twice as likely to have poor overall cardiovascular-health scores compared with women who were still having regular menstrual cycles.
That should get our attention.
Not because we should fear getting older—but because our 40s and 50s can be an incredibly important opportunity to become more intentional about our health.
PERIMENOPAUSE IS MORE THAN A HORMONAL SHIFT
As estrogen and other hormones fluctuate, changes can occur throughout the body.
• Changes in cholesterol
• Changes in blood sugar regulation
• Changes in blood pressure
• Changes in body composition
• Increased abdominal fat
• Changes in sleep and energy
• Changes in how we recover from exercise and stress
And here’s the part I want every woman to hear:
Getting older is not the problem. Ignoring what is changing is.
Your body is communicating with you. The question is whether you’re listening.
THIS IS WHY STRENGTH MATTERS
When women come to me wanting to lose weight, I don’t want the entire conversation to revolve around the scale.
Because your health is so much bigger than a number.
We need to talk about muscle. Movement. Nutrition. Recovery. Stress. Sleep. Mindset.
We need to talk about building a body that can support you—not just today, but decades from now.
Strength training, regular movement, nutritious food, adequate protein, managing stress and prioritizing recovery are all pieces of the bigger picture.
And while no workout or nutrition plan can guarantee prevention of heart disease, these are powerful behaviors that can support cardiovascular and overall health.
EVERY SEASON OF A WOMAN’S LIFE REQUIRES SOMETHING DIFFERENT
This is something I believe deeply at RB Coaching.
The woman you were at 25 doesn’t need the same things the woman you are at 45 or 55 needs.
Your body changes.
Your responsibilities change.
Your priorities change.
Your hormones change.
And your strategy needs to change with you.
That’s why my coaching isn’t simply about weight loss.
Because this isn’t about fighting your age.
It’s about owning it.
DON’T WAIT FOR YOUR BODY TO FORCE THE CONVERSATION
Your 40s aren’t the beginning of the end.
They can be the beginning of a completely different chapter.
A chapter where you stop putting yourself last.
Where you stop waiting for the perfect time.
Where you stop negotiating with the woman you’ve decided to become.
Take care of your heart. Build your strength. Fuel your body. Protect your future.
You have too much life ahead of you to postpone becoming the healthiest version of yourself.
One life. One body. Every season matters.
