‘Random Acts of Cody Kindness’ Inspires the World

Nearly a decade after his passing, one young man’s compassion is still making waves — not just in Kentucky, but across the globe.

What began as a tribute has grown into a movement, proving that even the smallest acts of kindness can leave a lasting legacy.

A Life Defined by Kindness

In Boyd County, the memory of Cody Gollihue continues to inspire.

The 21-year-old lost his life in a car crash in 2017, but those who knew him say his generosity and selflessness defined who he was.

From helping classmates to giving to children in foster care, Cody was known for always putting others first.

A Movement Takes Root

After his passing, a family friend created a Facebook group called “Random Acts of Cody Kindness.”

What started as a simple way to honor his memory has grown to more than 74,000 members — with participants spanning all 50 states and more than 100 countries.

The mission is simple: perform a random act of kindness and, if you choose, share it using #RACK.

Kindness That Spreads

Cody’s parents say many of his good deeds weren’t even known until after his death.

Stories continue to surface of him helping strangers, supporting friends, and quietly making a difference wherever he could.

That spirit is now being carried forward by thousands of people who are paying it forward in his name.

A Day to Remember — and Act

The Kentucky legislature has officially recognized March 19 — what would have been Cody’s 30th birthday — as Random Acts of Cody Kindness Day.

To mark the occasion, his family encourages people to perform 30 acts of kindness, creating a ripple effect that reflects the way Cody lived his life.

A Legacy That Continues to Grow

For Cody’s family, the impact is both humbling and powerful.

What began as one life rooted in compassion has become a global reminder that kindness matters — and that one person truly can make a difference.
