Pennsylvania and Delaware Join 22 States in Expanding CPA Licensure Paths

Pennsylvania and Delaware lawmakers just approved new CPA licensure bills, joining at least 22 states reshaping the path to becoming a certified public accountant. The bipartisan push aims to ease the nationwide accountant shortage by offering alternatives to the traditional 150-credit hour requirement—such as allowing candidates with a bachelor’s degree, two years of experience, and a passed CPA exam to qualify. With Pennsylvania’s size and presence of major accounting firms, the impact is expected to be significant. Both bills now await signatures from their governors.
