Church vs. Trump: Episcopal Leaders Refuse to Resettle White South African Refugees

In a rare rebuke of federal policy, the Episcopal Church says it will exit the U.S. refugee resettlement program rather than help place dozens of White South African refugees recently approved by the Trump administration. Citing concerns about fairness and “preferential treatment,” the church’s migration arm said it cannot support a system that, in their view, sidelines others in more urgent danger. The decision underscores growing tension between faith-based humanitarian groups and federal immigration policy.
