Common Sense: Hard to Find a Dumb Billionaire

For four years, during the first term of President Trump, his critics relished in essentially mocking him for not being very smart.  This was especially true during the midst of the COVID crisis.  If he thought aloud about possible treatments that “experts” deemed as not medically sound, the legacy linear media coverage very definitely included a tone of “what else would you expect from this unintelligent blowhard.”  The silence of the mainstream media when so much of what they and the “experts” said turned out to be so wrong remains largely in place today.

Approve or disapprove of what President Trump has done to date, and at this point, the data says the American public is approving.  Whatever your position is, however, hopefully, there can be agreement that these bold moves show evidence the man is pretty intelligent.  To be fair, for many of us, a lot of what has been happening is picking the low-hanging fruit.

For example, it would appear reducing illegal immigration at the southern border was not all that complicated.  The same can be said for identifying and removing those here illegally who have committed crimes.  Elitists who want to pretend a heartless government is rounding up and punishing folks studying to be priests, the actual facts have most Americans rolling their eyes and asking what is wrong with protecting all American citizens.  We could go on to highlight stopping biological males from competing with biological females or any number of things.  The point would remain the same.  The application of common sense in a strategic manner can be many things.  Stupid is not one of them.

Those opposing President Trump do themselves no favors when they persist in insisting the man is not wise.  This past election year, when even friends and family would tell me how dumb the man was, my response was consistent.  I would ask them to tell me the other billionaires they knew who were stupid.  If nothing else, that generally stopped that line of argument.

It would seem progressives simply cannot stop themselves when it comes to combining their opposition to certain rich people with the need to label them stupid.  Congresswoman Alex Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) outdid herself.  She labeled Elon Musk as “one of the most unintelligent billionaires” she has ever known.  Yeah, what does this guy know about anything?

Fortunately for we boobs, there are billionaires AOC and her pals probably think are smart.  This week the House Democrats announced their Super PAC, House Majority PAC, would be spending $50 million to “win back working Americans.”  Among the billionaires who made significant donations to the group in the 2024-2024 period were former New York City mayor and candidate for the 2020 Democratic Presidential nomination, Michael Bloomberg ($13 million); Illinois governor J.B. Pritzker ($3 million); hedge fund manager Tom Steyer ($1.2 million); and, LinkedIn co-founder Reid Hoffman ($1.5 million).  I will stipulate these men are not stupid.

It is statistically beyond debate that it is the Democratic Party that has been the overwhelming recipient of dollars from billionaires.  It is not enough for them to turn the numbers upside down and decry the idea an oligarchy is about to be imposed on us by Republicans.  They have to call into question the basic intelligence of billionaires who do not toe the progressive line.

This is the sort of behavior and rhetoric that is turning off large sections of voters.  Every time the progressives feel the need to call President Trump, Elon Musk, or anyone else involved in this Administration stupid, they beclown themselves. Common sense simply says it is pretty hard to find a dumb billionaire.
