GOP Introduces Election Security Bills to Block Noncitizen Voting Ahead of 2026 Midterms

Ahead of the 2026 midterm elections, House Republicans, led by Rep. August Pfluger (R-TX), have introduced a package of election security bills aimed at limiting noncitizen involvement in U.S. elections. The proposed legislation includes a ban on noncitizens voting in local elections in Washington, D.C., a prohibition on noncitizens helping to administer elections, and a constitutional amendment to prevent noncitizens from voting. These bills are part of broader GOP efforts to address election integrity and citizenship verification, including the earlier passage of the Safeguarding American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act.
