Recognizing Leadership in Agriculture

The Almond Alliance has announced Assemblywoman Alexandra Macedo as the 2025 recipient of its Almond Champion of the Year Award, honoring her commitment to advancing California’s agricultural sector and supporting the almond industry through practical, results-driven leadership.

Assemblywoman Macedo has been recognized for her work tackling some of the most pressing issues facing California growers—addressing abandoned agricultural properties, confronting invasive species, improving water infrastructure, and promoting wildfire prevention. Her consistent advocacy for farmers and rural communities underscores a deep understanding of the challenges faced by one of California’s most vital industries.

A Champion for California Growers

“Assemblywoman Macedo has taken a thoughtful, solutions-oriented approach to some of the biggest challenges facing California agriculture,” said Alexi Rodriguez, CEO of the Almond Alliance. “Her focus on abandoned land, water infrastructure, and wildfire prevention demonstrates an understanding of the pressures facing the almond industry today.”

The Almond Champion of the Year Award honors individuals who exhibit leadership in education, coalition building, and partnership development—all essential to maintaining the strength and sustainability of California agriculture. Recipients are recognized for advancing sound policies that benefit the state’s growers, processors, and rural economies.

Continuing a Legacy of Agricultural Excellence

Assemblywoman Macedo joins a distinguished group of past honorees who have shaped California’s agricultural policy and championed the almond community. Previous recipients include Assemblymembers Juan Alanis, Adam Gray, Heath Flora, and Carlos Villapudua; former USDA Farm Service Agency State Executive Director Connie Conway; the Department of Water Resources; and CDFA Undersecretary Christie Birdsong.

This continuity reflects the Alliance’s dedication to recognizing bipartisan cooperation and public-private partnerships that sustain California’s position as a global agricultural leader.

Upcoming Presentation in Modesto

Assemblywoman Macedo will formally receive the award at the California Almond Political Action Committee’s Annual Modesto Fundraiser, held at Del Rio Country Club on November 5, 2025, at 5:30 p.m. The evening brings together almond industry leaders, FFA students, elected officials, and community members to celebrate the individuals and organizations working to strengthen the state’s agricultural future.

The event serves not only as a celebration but also as an opportunity for dialogue among policymakers, producers, and advocates who share a commitment to ensuring the long-term vitality of California’s farming sector.

About the Almond Alliance

Founded in 1980, the Almond Alliance is a nonprofit trade association representing the collective voice of America’s almond industry. Its membership includes processors, hullers, shellers, growers, and allied businesses across the state and around the world.

The Alliance serves as a leading advocate for state and national policy that promotes the continued growth, innovation, and success of American almonds and agriculture. By building coalitions and providing resources to its members, the organization ensures that California farmers have a strong voice in legislative and regulatory discussions impacting their businesses and communities.

“From water management to environmental policy, we strive to bring forward common-sense solutions that help our farmers succeed while protecting California’s natural resources,” Rodriguez said. “The Almond Champion Award recognizes those public servants who share that commitment.”

A Practical Path Forward

Assemblywoman Macedo’s recognition comes as California continues to navigate complex agricultural issues involving water rights, sustainability, and economic viability amid rising operational costs. Her approach—emphasizing collaboration over confrontation—has earned her respect across party lines and among industry stakeholders.

By prioritizing infrastructure investment and rural resilience, Macedo represents a new generation of legislators committed to balancing environmental stewardship with economic growth. Her leadership reflects the values that the Almond Alliance seeks to elevate through its annual award—innovation, partnership, and dedication to the farming communities that feed the nation.
