Rep. Debra Moody Secures $50K to Restore and Upgrade Mid-South Military Museum in Atoka, TN

A museum dedicated to honoring America’s military history is getting a meaningful boost, thanks to Tennessee State Rep. Debra Moody. The Covington lawmaker has successfully secured $50,000 in state funding for the Mid-South Military Museum, a local institution that has long celebrated the sacrifices and advancements of America’s armed forces.

The funding will support critical upgrades to the museum, including preservation and restoration of historical military artifacts, improvements to display and storage areas, much-needed building repairs, and the development of a more modern, accessible website.

“The Mid-South Military Museum is an excellent place to learn about our nation’s armed forces and the men and women who have fought for our freedom and safety,” said Rep. Moody. “Preserving history is essential, and these funds will help tell more Tennesseans about military advancements and America’s story.”

Founded in 1990 and located in Atoka, TN the museum houses a wide array of uniforms, patches, weapons, vehicles, and artifacts from key military conflicts, including the Civil War, World War I, World War II, and the Vietnam War. Its exhibits offer visitors a hands-on, immersive experience in American military history.

The $50,000 allocation is part of Tennessee’s $59.8 billion balanced budget passed in April. This year’s budget reflects Republican-led priorities, including increased investments in public education, disaster relief for victims of Hurricane Helene, public safety initiatives, and transportation infrastructure.

Beyond the Mid-South Military Museum, lawmakers also directed significant funding toward the Tennessee State Museum and several other cultural institutions throughout the state, reaffirming a broad commitment to preserving Tennessee’s rich heritage.

Rep. Moody, who represents District 81 covering Tipton and part of Haywood Counties, has long been a champion of local history, education, and veterans’ affairs. Her efforts ensure that future generations in the Mid-South region can connect with the stories, struggles, and triumphs that have shaped the nation.

The improvements to the museum are expected to enhance visitor experiences, increase educational outreach, and provide a more sustainable foundation for continued preservation efforts.
