Country music legend Mark Chesnutt is ready to reclaim his stage and his health after enduring a series of life-threatening health scares. The singer, known for hits like “Too Cold at Home,” “Brother Jukebox,” and “I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing,” has announced his 2025 Redemption Tour, a nearly 40-date trek that celebrates his recovery, sobriety, and renewed passion for performing.
“I’m so happy about my Redemption Tour,” says Chesnutt. “I’m going out with excitement and a renewed energy for all aspects of performing and possibly recording. I love being on stage and seeing and hearing the crowd. I now realize that’s what I love about being in this business.”
Chesnutt’s career skyrocketed in the early 1990s after signing with MCA Nashville in 1989. With 14 No. 1 hits and over 12 million albums sold, he was a key figure in the genre’s honky-tonk movement, earning accolades like the CMA Horizon Award and recognition as one of the most-played country artists of the decade by Billboard.
However, his journey to recovery has been anything but easy. A fractured spine in his early twenties set the stage for a series of health setbacks. Chesnutt was later forced to endure invasive spine surgery, alcoholism, and multiple rounds of rehab, all while trying to maintain a demanding touring schedule. But the tipping point came in 2021 when a fall at the Houston airport exacerbated his spine condition, leading to life-altering surgery.
“My surgery was a major one,” Chesnutt recalls. “They scraped scar tissue off my nerves, and now I have two titanium rods in my back. I couldn’t work, couldn’t drive, couldn’t walk. I was laid up.”
During his recovery, Chesnutt turned to alcohol, which worsened his health. After a dangerous bout with alcoholism that saw him hospitalized and close to death, he realized the stakes were life or death.
“I had to quit drinking or die,” he says. His final drink was on November 1, 2023, marking the beginning of his path to sobriety.
Yet, the struggles didn’t end there. In June 2024, he faced emergency quadruple bypass surgery, a terrifying ordeal that once again left Chesnutt grappling with his health. “I’m back and doing better than ever,” he says. “My diet is better. I’m more active, and I feel better than I did in my 30s.”
Now, Chesnutt is looking forward to sharing his story and his music with fans across the U.S. and Canada on his 2025-2026 Redemption Tour. He’s ready to bring his newfound energy and gratitude to the stage, where he’s committed to delivering one of the most compelling shows of his career.
